Art Meets Science

This series of paintings has the explicit intention of bringing together two traditionally separate realms: east and west, and art and science. This motif I draw from my own experience: I was born in Hong Kong, a person of oriental origin, yet I am a proud Canadian. Being a medical researcher has plunged my thoughts into a rational, factual realm, and yet I try to retain the culture and tradition of my roots. I try to synthesize oriental and occidental ideas and techniques which surpass traditional cultural boundaries.

It is through these paintings where Eastern style meets Western, this synthesis of Oriental/Occidental Art where art meets science. It is pertinent to realize this is not a contrast of the two separate entities, but a comparison; a relation. Art is a product of the human mind and only the mind.

All religion, art; the aesthetic and spiritual, are all the result of human ingenuity, yet its presence and appreciation can only be realized by our analytical nature and quest for understanding. It is a balance: a ying and yang. One cannot exist without the other, and it is through my art that these two worlds are united. It is crucial for the harmonic cohabitance for all mankind.
